TRAVEL JOURNAL: SOUTH- TO MID- WEST.
Lack of inspiration is fatal.
Near or far, my solution? Travel.
I’m super wander-lusting during my present chapter of this little big book called LIFE, but I’m also extraordinarily passionate about my craft — which, in the city of Los Angeles — requires this thing called a business to be ran…
So! — December + January allowed me to explore cities a little closer to home for a few days at a time and, in hindsight, brought an awareness + growth to surface for me. All incredibly important stories that, when removing myself from my LA-bubble to indulge, lit a fire of inspiration back within me — this is your key; not the internet, not your bubble.
PT. I: EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS
San Antonio, Texas:
STAY — Cuteness overload at Havana Hotel!; There’s a little eclectic magic going on down south at this little gem.
EAT — Cured; Just so happened to be in a different part of the planet at the same time as one of my gf’s — and as we are both such busy little bees at home, we took it as a sign that it was meant to be for us to find somewhere yummy to catch up — and we did! I love when something old is turned into something new… i.e. the Pearl Brewery in SA now filled with shops and restaurants including this one we chose to check out. Cured is all about the MEAT and although I am not a big meat-eater, I am a solid whiskey and tequila drinker and this place WINS with their Mexican Hot Chocolate (just trust me) + jalepeno chicken and donuts…YES YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY — YUM! Also died for the design a bit. Cohesively curated very well — ceiling, flooring, and bathrooms? BE-approved!
PT. II: CHI-CITY
STAY — The Freehand Hotel; the building itself has so much history so this is where I fell in love, super inexpensive, super cute trendy vibe, BE-design-approved, clean and quaint.
EAT — The Broken Shaker (inside The Freehand); get the thing with the kale and mushrooms and cheese… and actually pretty much anything on this menu… hip and sexy and the drinks are everything. Lou Malnatti’s; find + eat the best deep dish pizza in the city of Chicago off my bucket-list…check! Eataly; like true Italian pizza on American soil… PLUS this place is like an adult food-lover’s Disneyland. (OH and there’s a Nutella Bar in this place…need I say more?) I hear they are opening one up in the LA-area…swoon! The Doughnut Vault; had the best chocolate-coconut donut of my life thanks to this place…AND it was one of the very last two (came just in time that morning!)…AND I am entirely beyond obsessed with the enclosed enchanting interior “vault” design.
Why is it that hindsight is always 20/20?
Is it just me who is completely aware of my own shenanigans in the actual moment but chooses to not admit to myself what’s really going on until later, or is every twenty-something-year-old still choosing the more difficult path from time to time?
Well, I can absolutely say this: The smoother the road, the more boring + predictable the ride. The bumpier the road, the better you become + the more you gain.
Looking back at the these last two trips + last two months, I appreciate moments that now allowed me to realize what I gained + what I lost;
I broke up with my uninspiring habits.
(you should do the same)
